Major LAVC Prop A and Prop AA Milestones:

  • Approved EIR ( Environmental Impact Report)
  • Revised Facilities Master Plan ­ new Hertzberg Library and Learning Resource Center will be built on the site of the existing Cafeteria
  • Decided Central Plant Location - new building will be built behind Campus Center
  • Established Aesthetic Design Guidelines ­ campus-wide architectural design of new buildings and construction materials will have similar color palettes and design guidelines

Prop A and AA Projects:

  • Hertzberg Library and Learning Resource Center
  • Allied Health/Sciences Center
  • Media Arts Center
  • Plant Facilties/Sheriff's Stations

Additional construction projects include:

  • Computer/Business/Technology Center
  • Child Development Center
  • Gymnasium Complex
  • Student Services Center
  • Planetarium Expansion
  • Athletic and Physical Education Facilities improvements: - stadium, new field turf, and all-weather track - new swimming pool complex - refurbishment of North and South Gym Complex - new and refurbished tennis courts - new athletic field house

Current Design Development Projects are underway. (Teams include architects, lab consultants, and construction engineers.)

The following Design Contracts have been completed:

  • An arborist(specialist in arboriculture) will compile a database of the 1801 trees on campus, design a site map of trees, and define the type and condition of all trees

  • Library and Learning Resource Center
  • Campus-wide improvements: Landscape Architect who is responsible for signage, roadways, painting, and public courtyards

The following are Upcoming Design Efforts:

  • Hazardous Materials Surveys: mold, termites, and asbestos
  • Food Service Study
  • Central Plant ­ structure that houses campus utilities and infrastructure
  • Utility Upgrades and Information Technology(IT) Core
  • Demolition Projects

Current Programming is currently underway to evaluate space and needs assessment for:

  • Athletic Fields
  • New Field House

BUGs

BUG groups are composed of LAVC faculty and academic deans, along with the staff of program manager, URS, which oversees all consultants, contractors, and the architects.

BUGs have been formed for the following construction projects, along with BUG leaders:

  • Arts Renovation(Art, Music, and Theater Arts buildings) ­ Dennis Reed

  • Plant Facilities ­ Tom Jacobsmeyer and Jose Ornelas
  • Student Services ­ Dr. Yasmin Delahoussaye
  • Administration ­ Tom Jacobsmeyer

  • Campus-Wide Improvements /Arborist ­ Tom Jacobsmeyer and Jack Epling

Non-Bond Campus Projects

Campus improvements performed by LAVC's Plant Facilities unrelated to Proposition A and AA.

New Projects:

  • A new roof will be placed on the Life Sciences building beginning early December '03
  • The Career and Transfer Center is undergoing a major facelift to incorporate the new LAVC/Woodbury Connections Center in the Administration building
  • Construction of a new partition for disabled students in the Speech lab in Campus Center is underway
  • Building a new ceiling in the Campus Center basement will begin early December '03
  • About a dozen new skylights are currently being installed in the swimming pool showers
  • Handicap signs on campus parking lots are receiving a new coat of paint, as well as the red and green color curbs
