PROP A Bond Projects Update
Allied Health & Sciences Center
Soliciting of construction bids is underway after the 3-story, 98,000-square foot building received Division of the State Architects(DSA) approval for meeting code standards. LAVC has received an additional $15 million in state funding for the project. Construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2006 on the current Maintenance & Operations site.
Maintenance & Operations /Sheriff's Station
Construction is on schedule, with approximately 30 percent of the complex completed on Parking Lot D. The facility should be open in March of 2006.
Bungalow Demolition
The current Sheriff's Station, Plant Facilities, and approximately15 bungalows surrounding Plant Facilities will be demolished in Spring 2006 to make way for construction of the Allied Health and Sciences building.
New Master Plan
According to LAVC's new Master Plan, which was approved by the Board of Trustees on Sept. 7, the locations of two proposed buildings has changed. The new Hertzberg Library & Resources Center will be built on the existing Library site, and the new Student Services building will be constructed on the site of the current Chemistry & Physics building. This will allow the Cafeteria to remain where it is.
Hertzberg Library & Learning Resources Center
The schematic design phase is complete, and the artist's renderings are available, for the 2-story, 93,000-square foot building to begin construction in November of 2007. Discussions are underway regarding temporary space for the current Library staff housed in the entire building.
Campus Buildings Exterior Painting Project
Phase I, which included most instructional buildings, is complete; and bidding is underway for Phase II to begin in October 2005. Phase II will include Campus Center, Cafeteria, Main Arcade and overheads and walkways, refurbishing of college letters on the main archway, Planetarium Dome, Bungalow 78, and the Stadium restrooms.
Renovations Completed in Campus Center and Foreign Language Buildings
The Campus Center interior has been painted, new marker boards have been installed in classrooms, and the roof deck has been replaced. In the Foreign Language building, the interior has been painted, floors replaced, ceilings and restrooms painted, and new projectors and marker boards have been installed in the classrooms.
Behavioral Science Building
Renovation will begin in Summer of 2006 and will include new windows, interior paint, new floors, ceilings and restrooms painted, and new projectors and marker boards in the classrooms.
Athletics Fields and Facilities
A state-of-the-art, 10-lane track and football/soccer field is scheduled to be installed, beginning November 2005, by contractor Byron-Davey. New visitors' bleachers are planned for 2006.
Gymnasium Complex
Renovation of the South Gym, expansion of North Gym, construction of 2 new pools and a therapy pool, and the addition of 5,000 feet to the DSPS fitness center will begin in Summer of 2006.
Central Plant
In the Fall of 2005, the following expansion is scheduled to begin: 2 new chillers, which will provide energy-efficient conditioned air throughout campus structures; updated infrastructure that includes new gas, water and sewer lines; and an upgraded DWP transformer.
Art and Campus Center Courtyard Renovations
Both projects are under DSA review, and the estimated start date is January 2006. Included will be the new marquee located at the corner of Fulton and Oxnard.
Remaining Campus-wide Restroom Renovations
This project is under DSA review and refurbishment of the remaining campus restrooms is expected to begin in Spring 2006.
