BOND PROJECTS - PROPOSITION A
MASTER ARCHITECT PLAN
On Aug. 6, master architect tBP Architecture presented to the Master Planning Committee two additional options that were based on comments at building location meetings. The most favorable option was to locate the Library/Learning Resource Center in the Quad and the Allied Health/Sciences building on the northern-most tennis court complex to the east of the Cafeteria and Art buildings. In addition, the Media Arts Center will be constructed north of the Art building. Planning development will continue through September.
NEW RESTROOM MODULAR UPDATE
Preparation is underway for installation of the new restroom structure, which will be complete and ready for use the first week of September.
Construction activities continue in the bungalow area in an effort to make the new modular restroom operational. Be advised that the first modular will be delivered on Aug. 26, and that activity will involve trucks and a crane or lift. The second modular will be delivered on Aug. 27 and will involve the same equipment. Building set and utility connections will take place on Aug. 28, 29 and 30.
STUDENT SERVICES CENTER & ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
Initial Builder User Group (BUG) meetings will start in early September, and Cannon Design is scheduled to begin programming in late September.
GYMNASIUM COMPLEX
Programming interviews are complete, and space calculations will be evaluated in early September.
ALLIED HEALTH/SCIENCES
The small BUG met with Anshen + Allen - Los Angeles and scheduled programming interviews from Aug. 19 through the end of the month.
LIBRARY/ LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
Programming interviews are underway between Paul Murdoch Associates and the BUGs.
MEDIA ARTS
Individual interviews are complete, and programming consultant Gonzalez/Goodale is reviewing all the information from the submitted draft program.
CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS -- PLANT FACILITIES
LION'S DEN STUDENT LOUNGE
The Lion's Den Student Lounge will have its grand opening on Sept. 5, beginning at 1 p.m. The ASU is planning a ribbon-cutting as well as cake and sparkling cider. The cyber lounge features 16 computers with web access, along with conference tables for students to meet or study. A big screen TV and comfortable leather couches are available in the entertainment lounge, and a pool table will be added by the end of September.
DISABLED STUDENTS¹ UPGRADES
Electricians are installing additional electrical wiring to allow disable students in classrooms on the first floor to monitor instructional activities generated from the telescope in the observatory on the second floor of the Planetarium.
VIRON PROJECTS
LIGHTING
The Campus Center basement hallway ceiling remains exposed. Repair work will be funded by FEMA, and the bid process will continue through the next two months.
Replacement of lights in the Speech Lab will begin Aug. 26.
The installation of new outdoor lighting is almost complete. Deficiencies will be identified and rectified this week.
AIR CONDITIONING
Viron team members continue to measure and verify all air conditioning controls. A/C computer updates in mid-August caused some severe temperature fluctuations in offices and classrooms, and Viron will continue to monitor the situation. Holes on the walls in some campus buildings caused by the removal of old thermostats will be repaired by Viron.
Viron plans to schedule information sessions in early September to train college employees in the operation of the new thermostat control system.
