BOND PROJECTS - PROPOSITION A
PRELIMINARY BUDGET
URS is in the process of setting up a budget for all the bond projects and will define the preliminary budgets for the first priority projects in June.
MASTER ARCHITECT, PRE-DESIGN STUDIES
The contract with master architect tBP is under negotiation and the company's work is expected to begin this month and continue into the fall. Environmental and other planning studies and surveys also will start this summer.
LIBRARY
Four programming service firms have been selected by the Library BUG for interviews May 8. Needs assessment consultations will begin this summer. BUG members are leader Carlotta Tronto, Lou Albert, Deborah Harrington, Marion Heyn, Henry Klein, Dana Lubow, David May, Ronald Mossler, Dennis Reed, Shannon Stack, Daniel Steo, and Phyllis Yasuda.
NORTH GYM
Programming architect Froehlich, Kow & Gong (FKG) is assisting the North Gym BUG and subcommittees with needs assessment and has begun evaluating the building structure, electrical and mechanical systems, and the condition of the facility.
ALLIED HEALTH / SCIENCES
The Allied Health/Sciences BUG and subcommittees are forming. Initial meetings are focusing on BUG organization and preparation for the programming and design process. It is anticipated that a Request for Qualification for programming services will be issued this month.
MEDIA ARTS
The contract for programming architect Gonzalez/Goodale is under negotiation and the firm is expected to begin work this month. Programming will proceed through the summer.
NON-BOND FACILITIES PROJECTS
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
A trench for the Child Development Center has been approved by the District State Architect (DSA) and is now out to bid. The conduit will hold wiring for a fire alarm system, telephone lines, and computer cables to link the facility to the rest of the campus. Contractor bids will
be received within the next 30 days.
HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING
The switch to the automated heating and air conditioning Direct Digital Control system is scheduled for the end of June. It is approximately 95 percent complete. Viron is in the process of providing air conditioning to all permanent campus buildings.
OUTDOOR LIGHTING
Approximately 70 exterior wall-mounted light fixtures have been retrofitted in the bungalow areas. Installation of 110 new 10-foot light poles is underway and should be complete by the end of May.
INDOOR LIGHTING
Light fixtures in the North and South Gym basketball areas and the underground tunnel are expected to be finished by the end of May.
CEILING REPLACEMENTS
After inspections are reviewed, some modifications may be necessary to the ceiling construction projects in the Campus Center, North and South Gyms, and the Administration building. Additional construction may be scheduled during evening hours this spring. Viron and other contractors are conducting construction assessments on the Campus Center lower level hallway ceiling replacement project.
