Propositions A, AA and 47 Project Summary

Major Construction
The sale of general obligation bonds enabled by the passage of Proposition A in 2001 and Propositions AA and 47 in 2003 allows Los Angeles Valley College to construct much-needed new buildings and renovate the rest of the campus to better serve its constituency.

LAVC's major construction projects include the following new facilities:

  • Gymnasium Complex, which will be partially new and partially renovated: start date Fall 2005
  • Hertzberg Library Resource Center, which also will contain the Historical Museum: start date Winter 2007
  • Allied Health/Sciences, a 3-story classroom/lab facility that incorporates energy-saving, sustainable components: start date Spring 2006
  • Student Services Center, which will be partially new and partially renovated: start date Spring 2008

Additional construction projects include:
 
  • Child Development Center
  • Planetarium Expansion
  • Athletics and Physical Education facilities improvements
  • Renovation of all campus restrooms
  • Remodeling of all classroom buildings
  • Landscaping, signage, roadways, painting, lighting
  • Recent contracts completed:
     
  • Architectural drawings for Allied Health/Sciences Building
  • Full assessment of the 1837 trees in the campus forest
  • Environmental Impact Report
  • Additional funds will be used for:
     
  • Changes in campus entry, egress and parking
  • New outdoor seating areas
  • BUGs
    A Building User Group (BUG) was formed for each planned new facility and for the buildings scheduled for modernization. Programming architects assisted the groups with needs assessment and space utilization.     Space and Work Committee
    The college Space & Work Subcommittee serves as the campus representative through the construction phase of the bond projects.

    Project Manager and Master Architect
    URS is LAVC's project manager and serves as campus representative for the design and construction phase of the college's bond projects. The company also oversees all consultants, contractors, and the master architect, Berliner and Associates Architecture.
