The LACCD board of trustees has adopted a district-wide Sustainable Building Plan to incorporate energy-saving and environmentally friendly features into the new structures.

Buildings with more than 7,500 square feet are required to incorporate “green” standards advocated by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design certification program.

LACCD's trustees worked with local community members and environmental groups, such as the Sierra Club and Global Green, so the plan would be both environmentally protective and fiscally responsible. Construction costs will increase but should be offset by rebates, incentives, and long-term savings through conservation of energy and water.

Additional details are available in this Architectural Record article.
